On 4 June 2025, I successfully completed my habilitation proceedings under the auspices of the Faculty of Philosophy at the Pontifical University of John Paul II (UPJPII) in Kraków. The title of my proposal was “Informational Environments as Evolutionary Scaffolds: The Natural History of Cognitive Artefacts”. The members of the committee were:

These proceedings are somewhat unusual in that they amount to my second habilitation in the same discipline, based on related topics and building on related publications (although thoroughly updated). My earlier Austrian habilitation could not be recognised under Polish law, despite various attempts to argue for its equivalence. I would be glad to share my experiences and background information with any other scholars from outside Poland seeking to build an academic career in this country.
